The Valaris company has begun drilling the first gas development well at Woodside’s Scarborough project , located off the coast of Australia. The platform used for this task is the VALARIS DPS-1 , built in 2012 by F&G ExD Millenium at Jurong Shipyard Singapore, with the capacity to drill up to 34,000 feet at a maximum depth of 10,000 feet.
About Drilling at Woodside’s Scarborough Field
“This project will keep VALARIS DPS-1 busy until 2024 and 2025. Congratulations to the entire team on a great start and we look forward to a safe and successful operation“said Jason Chaplin, Valaris platform manager.
Located in the Carnarvon Basin, in deep waters off the coast of Western Australia, the Scarborough project involves the implementation of a floating production unit that will see the drilling of eight wells in the initial stage and thirteen wells along the useful life of the Scarborough field.
The transportation of the gas for treatment at Pluto LNG will be carried out through a new main line with an approximate extension of 430 km. The final resolution of the investment was made in November 2021 and it is anticipated that the first shipment of liquefied natural gas (LNG) will be made in 2026.
