The Tages Helios Net Zero infrastructure fund, dedicated to the energy transition, has taken a decisive step towards sustainability by announcing the conversion of its biogas plants into biomethane facilities . Tages Capital SGR, a renowned alternative fund manager and a leading operator in the photovoltaic sector in Italy , has acquired four biogas plants that will be transformed to produce biomethane from 2026, reinforcing its commitment to renewable and programmable energy solutions.

With this transaction, the Tages Helios Net Zero fund has raised €375 million in capital, backed mainly by institutional investors. The acquired plants are strategically located near Pavia and Cremona, in Genivolta, Tromello and Dorno, with a combined capacity of 4 MW. Each facility will be able to generate approximately 300 Smc/h of biomethane, which translates into more than 2 million Smc per year once operating at full capacity.

Biomethane will be obtained by processing agricultural waste and livestock effluents, such as manure from various species and agricultural by-products such as triticale and wheat bran. This approach ensures a “nearly zero kilometer” supply chain , maximizing sustainability while providing digestate, a natural fertilizer useful for local agriculture.

Renewable and programmable energy

Umberto Quadrino, President of Tages SpA and Investment Director of Tages Capital SGR, stressed that unlike solar or wind energy , biomethane is a programmable renewable energy source. This allows its availability to be adjusted according to energy demands, as well as being able to inject this energy directly into the existing natural gas network.

Biomethane offers exceptional flexibility and reliability, and is an essential component of our strategy to build an industrial-scale energy portfolio.

Quadrino commented.

With this investment, Tages Capital is betting on biomethane and strengthening its commitment to sustainable initiatives, such as the recent investment in iPlanet , a project that will install ultra-fast electric charging stations throughout Italy. With these projects, Tages Capital SGR reaffirms its leadership in renewable energies and its active role in driving the global energy transition.
