Automated Ultrasonic Testing, otherwise known as AUT, is a type of ultrasonic testing technique that utilizes magnets and computerized robotic methods to drive the ultrasonic scanning device around the specimen being inspected.

With the efficiency of the AUT Bandit, the equipment gives the operator the level of effectiveness and accuracy that is unparallel over the manual ultrasonic hand scanning method; ultimately giving a more in-depth review of the specimen being examined being accurate to +/- .001 of an inch. This allows the owner/operator to make the best decision when it comes to things like remaining life of the process material being examined.

CFS’ implantation of AUT is to drive a more cost effective, thorough inspection that minimizes down time and generates the best inspection possible for their clients. This system is extremely versatile and can be used for many types of inspection.  Including but not limited to storage tanks, in-service pressure vessels, piping, and spheres.

As far as versatility, AUT has such a wide range of inspection methods. For instance, one moment you can be inspecting for weld defects and in the next one, move onto a full volumetric corrosion/erosion mapping inspection.  The ability of the AUT system is almost endless.
