Alphabet ‘s self-driving car unit, through the company Waymo, has announced that it will begin testing its all-electric Jaguar I-PACE robotaxis on the streets of Miami in mid-2025. Following its partnership with fintech company Moove , the two will jointly manage fleet operations, facilities and charging infrastructure in the city.
Waymo’s robotaxis are coming to Miami
For several months now, Waymo has been testing its robotaxis in different parts of Florida, where weather conditions, such as frequent rain, have been important for continuous feedback and thus, improving autonomous driving technology. According to Francis X. Suarez, mayor of Miami, the arrival of Waymo will expand the services offered to citizens and visitors who make the city life, as an innovative and safe transportation option.
Starting in 2026, Waymo One will be available to riders in Miami, allowing users to request rides in Waymo’s robotaxis through its app. According to Ryan McNamara, Waymo’s vice president of operations, the collaboration with Moove will allow the service to be scaled more quickly while keeping safety as a priority.
Moove has offices in several cities in Africa, Asia, the Middle East and the United Kingdom, and is consolidating its presence in the United States with this project. The company will initially manage the fleet in Phoenix, and will later expand to Miami.
Waymo continues to expand its service in other cities, including San Francisco, Phoenix, and Los Angeles, where its fleet of autonomous vehicles makes more than 150,000 weekly trips. Additionally, Waymo recently opened its service in Los Angeles, eliminating the waitlist and offering unrestricted public rides.
