In a significant advancement for commercial construction, Walmart and Alquist have completed the largest 3D printed expansion in the United States. The project, located at the Walmart Supercenter in Athens, Tennessee, covers 8,000 square feet and features 19’4” tall walls . These structures are among the most earthquake-resistant in the world, reinforcing the potential of 3D printing technology in the construction industry.

3D printing in commercial construction
This method, known as 3D printed construction (3DCP), speeds up construction times, reduces costs and minimizes environmental impact. Alquist, a pioneer in the use of 3DCP, employs carbon-neutral materials and advanced robotic technology, making 3D printing an increasingly attractive option over traditional methods.
Alquist is not just limiting itself to building infrastructure . The company is also working to educate local communities by creating 3D printing training programs. This initiative seeks to train a new generation of workers and encourage the creation of affordable housing and jobs in areas where this technology is used.
The Tennessee project is one achievement within a broader mission of Alquist, which also includes the creation of its own economic ecosystem. This is based on collaboration with local entities and the training of workers to create a sustainable innovation environment in each community.
