Vineyard Wind, has released an official statement following an incident that resulted in damage to the blades of one of its offshore wind turbines. This event was recorded during the early hours of Saturday, July 13, 2024.

The incident affected the blades of a turbine in the company’s marine development area. At the time of the incident, there were no personnel or third parties near the turbine, ensuring that there were no injuries to Vineyard Wind employees or contractors involved.
In response, the company activated its emergency protocols stipulated in its permit, which include creating a security perimeter around the affected area and coordinating with the U.S. Coast Guard to communicate the situation to mariners through an official notice.
GE, the company in charge of the turbines and blades for the project, and also the installation contractor, has and installation contractor, has committed to conduct a comprehensive analysis to identify the root cause of the damage. In the meantime, the company will continue to work closely with federal, state, tribal and local authorities to ensure the safety of its personnel, mariners and protect the environment.
