Vast Infraestrutura and the Port of Rotterdam Authority have signed a Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) with the aim of promoting the use of shore-side power(OPS) for berthed tankers worldwide.

A strategic agreement with Vast Infraestrutura

Both entities lead the “OPS for Tankers First Movers Coalition” initiative, which seeks to coordinate efforts among shipowners, port terminals, oil companies and industry associations to enable the electrification of tankers. This is a project that seeks to lay the foundations for a cleaner and more efficient maritime infrastructure.

The agreement contemplates the development of case studies to analyze the composition of the global fleet, the main shipping routes and the adaptability of the most relevant liquid terminals. The energy demand and technical requirements to safely connect ships to the power grid in key ports will also be studied.

One of the key purposes of this movement is to generate valuable information to be presented to bodies such as the International Maritime Organization (IMO).(IMO). The aim is to facilitate the creation of regulatory frameworks that support the global deployment of OPS solutions, accelerating the transition to a more sustainable industry.
