On Saturday, 2 November 2024, Utkilen AS, the renowned Norwegian shipping company, celebrated a major milestone by launching its new chemical tanker , Listraum, at the shipyards in İçdaş, Turkey. This event marks a decisive step in the company’s commitment to sustainability and green shipping.

Clean technology in the new Utkilen tanker

Listraum, which is the 34th vessel in Utkilen’s fleet, is equipped with liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanks and advanced multifuel systems. The inclusion of these LNG tanks is a reflection of the company’s commitment to reducing emissions in the maritime sector . A significantly cleaner fuel than traditional options, LNG enables a considerable decrease in sulphur, nitrogen oxide and carbon dioxide levels, making a crucial contribution to climate change mitigation.

The vessel stands out for its focus on LNG. Utkilen has implemented innovative technologies such as connections for batteries and shore power, hull design optimization and advanced hybrid solutions supplied by Høglund Marine Solutions. These features ensure that Listraum is prepared to meet future environmental regulations and decarbonization goals.

Utkilen’s plans go beyond this launch. Listraum is just the first in a series of four tankers, all set to operate efficiently and sustainably in the Baltic and North Sea regions. With these developments, Utkilen reaffirms its position as a leader in innovation and environmental responsibility in the maritime industry.

Furthermore, collaboration with Høglund’s energy and automation experts ensures that these vessels have a fully integrated system that includes energy management, hybrid technology and gas supply systems, further contributing to operational efficiency.
