Google has just announced a major update to Bard since its release. The company’s chatbot now has support for queries in Spanish and 40 other languages, including Chinese, German and Portuguese .
Although the system was already available in Mexico and Latin America, it previously only supported instructions in English. With this update, users in these regions will be able to interact with the AI- powered bot in their local languages and adjust responses to accommodate colloquial language.
In addition to the inclusion of new languages, this AI is now available in Brazil and in the 27 countries of the European Union. The ChatGPT competitor was released in March this year in a limited version for some users in the United States. The service was later expanded to other parts of the world, although the European Union (EU) was not among the places initially considered.
The company had to delay its launch in the EU to ensure compliance with local regulations and regulations. Countries like Spain, Germany and Italy have carried out research on the operation of systems based on generative artificial intelligence.
The concerns of the European authorities have now been reflected in the Artificial Intelligence Law, which seeks to establish a common legal framework to regulate the use of AI in the euro area. Although the legislation is not yet official, there are local and country-specific regulations that the company seeks to comply with in order to operate smoothly.
The Google team is working to support the proposition that sets Bard apart from the competition. In addition to the legal updates necessary for its expansion, the company has announced a series of new features that promise to improve the user experience.
Bard has new features
One of the new features is that it allows the responses to be read aloud . According to the development team, users just need to type and then select the sound icon for it to play the result on speaker. This feature is available in both Spanish and other languages.
On top of that, users will now be able to pin and name conversations, keep track of interaction history, and share content within the Google ecosystem. The Build, Debug, and Optimize feature now offers the ability to export Python code to Replit, in addition to the ability to push code to Google Colab.
During a media conference, Bard’s team announced that the tool will offer the option to edit responses via a menu , allowing users to adjust the length, style, and tone with a single click. However, this tool is only available in English .
Another of the announcements was the addition of Lens to Bard , which means that it will now be possible to ask this AI development to identify an image or parts of it to obtain a text description.
The Google team warns that despite this update, this AI may provide inaccurate, misleading or false information at times, although they are working to minimize this in the future. As for plans to release a mobile app that competes with ChatGPT iOS, the team isn’t ruling out the idea, but it’s not currently a priority.
