Uniper has selected Electric Hydrogen as the exclusive design partner for a 200 MW electrolyser plant at its Green Wilhelmshaven project in northern Germany. The company started pre -FEED design work in October 2024, paving the way for one of Europe’s largest electrolysis facilities.
The Green Wilhelmshaven project
The project consists of a large-scale electrolysis plant , which will generate green hydrogen using energy from renewable sources, and an ammonia import terminal. Both facilities will be connected to Germany’s hydrogen infrastructure, including backbone networks and underground storage, consolidating Wilhelmshaven’s position as a strategic hub for hydrogen production.
The electrolysis will use Electric Hydrogen’s advanced proton exchange membrane ( PEM ) technology, selected for its efficiency and ability to minimise production costs. Electric Hydrogen’s 100 MW modular plants will be ready for deployment in the European Union in 2026, supporting the transition to a decarbonised economy.
Uniper Hydrogen Director Susanne Thöle underlined the importance of the project: “Green hydrogen is essential to decarbonise industries in Europe. We are excited to be working with Electric Hydrogen, a partner that understands our goals and helps us move towards a more sustainable future. ”
Raffi Garabedian, CEO of Electric Hydrogen , said: “We are committed to transforming the energy industry. This project in Wilhelmshaven is a decisive step towards making green hydrogen an economically viable option, supporting Uniper in its mission to lead in low-carbon energies. ”
