Turkey has announced plans to deploy an exploration vessel to offshore Somalia to conduct oil and gas exploration. The move comes as part of a hydrocarbon cooperation agreement signed between the two countries, Turkey’s Ministry of Energy reported.

Exploration of natural resources

According to Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar,“In late September or early October, the Oruc Reis will sail to Somalia to conduct an extensive seismic analysis, which could take several months. This deployment underscores Turkey’s commitment to strengthening its energy resources and its position in the international arena.

In addition, Bayraktar revealed specific details about the location of the exploration areas: two of the three allocated blocks are located approximately 50 km from the Somali coast, while the third is about 100 km away. These blocks were selected based on their potential to host substantial oil and gas reserves.
