The energy company TotalEnergies has started gas production in the“Fenix field”, located 60 km off the coast of Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. This project is part of the Cuenca Marina Austral 1 (CMA-1) concession, in which the company has a 37.5% working interest, in partnership with Harbour Energy and Pan American Energy.

With a production capacity of 10 million cubic meters of natural gas per day, the Fenix field consists of an“unmanned platform” located 70 meters deep on the seabed, interconnected to the existing facilities through a 35-kilometer subsea pipeline.
The extracted gas is transported to the Véga Pléyade platform, also operated by the company, before being is transported to the Véga Pléyade platform, also operated by the company, before being processed at the Río Cullen and Cañadón Alfa plants. The fuel will be stored for later distribution at the designated platform.
One of the main achievements of this development is the low cost and low emissions intensity, with only 9 kg of CO2e per equivalent barrel. This is in line with TotalEnergies strategy strategy of developing sustainable and efficient projects.
Javier Rielo, Senior Vice President of Exploration and Production for the Americas, highlighted that the start-up of Fénix production was achieved safely and ahead of schedule, in only two years from the final investment decision.
