Canadian mining company Torex Gold is resuming mining activities and has confirmed the proper functioning of all operations and projects at its Morelos Complex, located in the Guerrero Gold Belt, Mexico. This announcement comes after the lifting of the temporary suspension by the Director General of Mines of the Federal Ministry of Economy, a measure that had temporarily paused activities in the region.
Australian Torex Gold restarts mining activities
With official authorization, Torex Gold has resumed activities such as underground and open-pit mining, in addition to the processing of materials and the advancement of the Media Luna Project . The company’s president and CEO, Jody Kuzenko, highlighted that this return is special in order to achieve the annual production objectives, which are estimated between 450,000 and 470,000 ounces of gold by 2024.
” With the restart, our team and contractor partners can return to performing meaningful and productive work, aligned with the high safety and sustainability standards that characterize Torex Gold ,” Kuzenko said in an official statement.
This project is one of the centerpieces of the Morelos Complex and is progressing as planned, all under a schedule that includes connection to the processing plant in February 2025. This underground development represents an expansion in the company’s production capabilities, while strengthening its strategic position in the mining sector.
The Media Luna Project is located on the opposite bank of the Balsas River from the El Limón Guajes Complex ( ELG ) and is expected to generate a contribution to gold and other mineral reserves in the coming years. In addition, this expansion underlines the company’s commitment to sustainability and technological innovation in the industry.
