Skovgaard Energy, Vestas and Topsoe have inaugurated the world’s first green ammonia plant in Ramme, Denmark. This project is partly funded by Denmark’ s Energy Technology Development and Demonstration Program(EUDP), which is designed to convert renewable energy into green ammonia.

The world’s first environmentally friendly ammonia plant

The plant has a capacity to produce 5,000 tons per year of green ammonia, using 50 MW of solar energy and 12 MW of wind energy. This production will avoid the emission of 8,200 tons of CO₂ per year, highlighting its importance in the transition to carbon neutrality. In addition, the plant’s dynamic approach will enable it to adapt efficiently to fluctuations in the renewable energy productionthus ensuring an efficient and cost-effective operation.

The ammonia produced will be a clean fuel that can be used to decarbonize industrial sectors such as steel and cement production. According to Kim Hedegaard, CEO of Power-to-X at Topsoe, this plant“marks a major breakthrough in the search for sustainable energy solutions“.

For his part, Niels Erik Madsen, CEO of Skovgaard Energy, mentioned: “We have reached a milestone in Denmark. Until now, we have been able to supply a lot of green energy to the power grid, but we have not been able to store it or convert it into energy for industry’s needs. Now we can do just that, by converting green electricity into green ammonia. “.
