Today, August 29, marks the International Day against Nuclear Tests, approved by the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) in 2009.
The resolution, proposed by the Republic of Kazakhstan, commemorates the closure of the Semipalatinsk nuclear testing site on the same day in August 1991.
On this day, conferences, exhibitions, activities and events are held worldwide to raise awareness, educate and sensitize the public against nuclear weapons.
A nuclear test consists of the detonation of a nuclear weapon for experimental purposes, to evaluate the power of an atomic bomb, its destructive capacity, and sometimes they have been detonated for other purposes, such as propaganda, to extract fuel or make a large well. .
These types of tests have serious consequences for humanity and the planet, generating a huge environmental impact through radiation.
