Today, October 11, is the International Day Against Fracking, it is commemorated with the aim of raising awareness in the world population of the serious environmental and social damage caused by this technique to extract fossil fuels from the subsoil using pressurized water.
Fracking (also known as hydraulic fracturing) is a practice that is carried out by injecting water with sand and chemical products to extract shale gas, which causes fractures and large-scale damage to the different layers of the soil, with serious environmental and social consequences.
This technique has serious consequences for the environment, since it can cause earthquakes, uses large amounts of fresh water that is necessary for human consumption, contaminates both surface and underground water and causes an increase in methane gas emissions, one of the gases that contributes most to the climate crisis.
Fracking is prohibited in France and its use is suspended in England. More and more agencies, movements and organizations join the fight against fracking, so that this highly polluting method does not continue to increase without regulation and so that clean and sustainable energies are chosen.
