Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) announced that it has been named “preferred supplier” by the electricity company RWE for the supply of one thousand megawatts (1,000 MW) in the Thor offshore wind project, located in the North Sea in Denmark, and that, a Once it starts operations, it will become the largest offshore park in the country.
The company will install 72 wind turbines of its most powerful model, the SG 14-236 DD. The agreement reached with RWE – which also includes the maintenance of the project – is subject to the final investment decision of the electric company.
According to the manufacturer, executives from RWE and Siemens Gamesa met last week in Østerild (Denmark), where the first prototype of the SG 14-236 DD wind turbine is being installed, and highlighted “the enormous importance of this contract, which reflects the commitment of both companies to the supply of clean energy in Denmark”.
SGRE expects the new service station to be fully operational from 2026. RWE plans to use this port as a base for its park operations for at least 30 years.
When it starts operations at the end of 2027, the Thor offshore wind farm – reports Siemens Gamesa – will be capable of producing enough green electricity to supply more than a million Danish homes.
