In recent years, the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) has risen sharply on the various scales that have ranked it as one of the best institutions of higher education in Latin America and the world. The QS world university classification has placed it in first place in its ranking of the 10 best universities in South America.
The QS evaluates every year at least 1400 universities in the world, with a hierarchical criterion. For the top of the year 2023, it has included the UBA among the best in the world in 67th place and in the case of the 10 best in Latin America, it places it in first place.
Founded in 1821, UBA has educated four Nobel Prize winners and several presidents, an aspect highlighted by the QS. In addition, the consultant takes into account other indicators such as academic recognition, the quality of teaching and the opinion of at least 13,000 academic experts. Likewise, the recognition of employers, the number of professors with respect to the number of students, among other criteria, are studied.
The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), which previously had a place in the world ranking, was excluded. However, it remains present in the top 10 best in Latin America.
In the list of the best universities in the south is also, in third place, the University of Sao Paulo (Brazil), the Catholic University of Chile in fourth place and the University of Chile in fifth place. Mexico repeats with another place awarded to the Tecnológico de Monterrey, and Colombia was also placed in 8th and 9th place with the Universidad de los Andes and the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, respectively. In position 10 is the Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina.
