The Northern Gas Pipeline reversal project, essential to optimize gas transportation from the rich Vaca Muerta formation to northern Argentina, has begun with the first welding of tubes in La Carlota, Córdoba.
This initial phase is part of a 122 km work that will connect the Central West Gasduct with the North Gasduct, thus facilitating the flow of gas to northern regions of the country.
About the Northern Gas Pipeline
This gas pipeline, which includes a 62-kilometer extension and changes in the direction of flow in four compressor plants, is essential not only to improve the efficiency of gas transportation but also to ensure energy supply in northern Argentina. The work is being carried out with semi-automatic welding technology and is expected to be completed in August , after a postponement from the original date in May.
The conclusion of this project will reduce dependence on gas imports , particularly those from Bolivia, and will support the demand for energy in provinces such as Salta, Jujuy, Santiago del Estero, Catamarca, La Rioja and Tucumán. In addition, the transported natural gas will benefit homes and industries and facilitate the development of emerging sectors such as lithium mining.
Without a doubt, this project has an immediate impact on Argentina’s energy security and infrastructure and also represents an opportunity to strengthen energy autonomy in the context of global geopolitical and economic fluctuations. By ensuring a steady supply of natural gas, Argentina can minimize its vulnerability to import disruptions and strengthen its local economy, promoting industries that depend on a stable and affordable energy supply.
