The Swedish company Eco Wave Power (EWP) has reached an agreement with OREN Ordu Enerji for the possible construction of a wave energy installation of up to 77 MW in Ordu (Turkey). The plant, estimated at $150 million, would be Turkey’s first grid-connected wave power plant and, upon completion, the largest in the world.
Under the terms of the agreement, Ordu Enerji will transfer nine potentially suitable jetties to Eco Wave Power for a period of 25 years from the activation of the corresponding pilot plant or power plant, while Eco Wave Power will be in charge of building and putting into operation the plant and to sell the electricity generated by the plant in accordance with an approved production quota to be determined for the site.
The 77 MW power plant is planned to be built in several phases, starting with a pilot station of up to 4 MW at the port of Ordu and continuing with the construction, operation and maintenance of the remaining capacity of the plant of up to 73 MW. Ordu Enerji has the right of first refusal to partially invest in the different phases of the project.
