Silicon Ranch, an independent company with expertise in solar energy production, agrovoltaics and battery storage in the United States, announced the inauguration of its first large-scale solar project in Alberta, Canada.
The large-scale solar project in Alberta
This 58 megawatt(MWAC) capacity project is the largest behind-the-meter solar project in Canada and is designed to supply approximately 20% of Shell’s Scotford refinery’s energy needs over the next 25 years, allowing it to supply 100% of the direct electricity needs, when full capacity is required, at each of the company’s integrated operations.
Silicon Ranch, founded in 2011 in Nashville, Tennessee, has been recognized for its work in implementing the first utility-scale solar projects in several regions of the southeastern United States, including Tennessee, Georgia, Mississippi, Arkansas, Kentucky and South Carolina. With the Scotford project, the company adds two new milestones to its history: the first international solar project and the first large-scale solar installation in the industrial heartland of Alberta, Canada.
As with all of its projects, the company will not only be responsible for the ownership, operation and maintenance of the solar farm, but will also assume responsibility for land management throughout the life cycle of the project.
This approach highlights the company’s long-term commitment and sustainability to its direct partners and the communities in which it is involved. Silicon Ranch co-founder and CEO Reagan Farr said the success of the Scotford solar farm demonstrates the hard work involved, especially with Shell Canada and Strathcona County. This has allowed the company to ensure a stronger future for each of its PV projects. photovoltaic projects projects to come.
“At Silicon Ranch, one of our guiding principles is that we only succeed when our partners succeed, and the Scotford solar farm represents a successful outcome for our partners at Shell Canada and our partners in Strathcona County.”
Farr noted.
Finally, the design of the solution behind the meter for the Scotford solar farm is the first of its kind in Canada, and establishes an innovative and replicable model for future energy companies, industries and other chemical sectors. This type of project allows for the implementation of new technologies that seek to develop more efficient solutions to improve industrial operations.
