Primergy Solar and Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners announced that the Gemini Solar + Storage project, located in Nevada, has become the largest solar energy and battery storage system in the United States operating from a single location. This development is already operating and has the capacity to meet about 10% of the state of Nevada’s peak energy demand.
Importantly, NV Energy has secured a 25-year power purchase agreement with the Gemini project, securing a sustainable source of clean energy derived from this monumental plant. The installation reflects a significant advance in renewable energy technology and also underscores NV Energy’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions.
Gemini project details
Developed by Primergy Solar together with Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners, the project features 1.8 million bifacial solar panels and 380 MW of battery storage capacity supplying up to 1,400 MWh of power. This configuration allows the batteries to be charged directly from the solar panels. solar panelsthus optimizing the efficiency of the system.
Primergy has taken measures to conserve existing vegetation and has designed the project to reduce its impact on the land by more than 20%. This consideration of the natural environment underscores the project’s focus on sustainability.
The development of the Gemini project involved an investment of $1.9 billion between debt and tax equity, which generated approximately 1,300 unionized, well-paying jobs. These jobs contributed nearly $463 million to Nevada’s economy, highlighting the significant economic impact of the project, in addition to its environmental benefits.
