The city of Arequipa will host the first green hydrogen plant in Peru. This ambitious project, to be developed in the district of La Joya, contemplates an investment of US$2.5 billion, according to government authorities.

Arequipa: green energy headquarters

It will be the South African company Phelan Green Energy the one in charge of implementing this power plant, as announced by Governor Rohel Sánchez, who emphasized that this initiative will make it possible to replace the use of fossil fuelsThe use of the energy matrix, such as oil, will facilitate a transformation in the energy matrix, with the objective of improving the quality of life of the population.

On the other hand, the green hydrogen plant, which will create hundreds of jobs in Arequipa, will be built on a 4,000 hectare site with direct access to the Interoceanic Highway. The governor of Arequipa emphasized that the region intends to lead the transition to a new energy matrix based on renewable energies and mentioned other projects underway, such as the digital technology park, the energy mining park in Caravelí and the Corío port.

Green hydrogen plant in Peru boosts progress

The production of green hydrogen will be carried out using renewable energies such as water and air, making it a clean, sustainable fuel with zero polluting emissions. This type of energy is obtained through an electrolysis process powered by renewable sources such as wind or solar.

Once produced, the hydrogen is stored in tanks and channeled to a fuel cell. fuel cell, where it is where it is re-combined with oxygen from the air to generate electrical energy.

In addition, the green hydrogen plant in Arequipa will focus on the production of this clean fuel and will also promote research and development in renewable technologies. Likewise, collaboration with local universities and research centers will allow the creation of educational and training programs, promoting knowledge and development in sustainable energy. This approach will position Peru as an emerging leader in the adoption of green technologies worldwide.
