Logistics and warehousing company GXO Logistics and Agility Robotics, developer of the Digit bipedal robot, have entered into a multi-year agreement to deploy these robots in GXO’s operations. This agreement marks the first commercial deployment of humanoid robots in the industry and the beginning of the Robots as a Service(RaaS) business model.

The agreement between GXO Logistics and Agility Robotics

GXO has decided to move forward with the implementation of Digit robots in its warehouses, following a successful pilot test at the end of 2023. GXO automation director Adrian Stoch mentioned that this collaboration with Agility Robotics is a great improvement of the working environment and optimization of operations. According to Stoch, the integration of these humanoids reflects GXO’s commitment to innovation and efficiency.

The RaaS agreement includes the adoption of Digit and the Agility ArcTM cloud platform, designed to manage the deployment and operation of the robots. Digit, a human-centered robot, is capable of performing a variety of repetitive tasks safely in environments shared with people. Agility Arc facilitates the complete lifecycle management of these robots, from facility mapping to operational troubleshooting.

At SPANX facilities, Digit robots work alongside existing automation, including autonomous mobile robots(AMR). These robots are responsible for moving containers and placing them on conveyor belts, coordinated through Agility Arc. This deployment optimizes operations and allows exploring new use cases to expand Digit’s capabilities.
