The maritime industry, Tesvolt Ocean , a new joint venture based in Lübeck, Germany, has launched the “Kaptein” energy storage series. This system plans to be a game-changer for electric propulsion in the maritime sector.

One of the main problems with battery systems is the limited space on boats. However, the “ Kapteinseries changes that factor, with a design that allows the battery modules to be installed individually and instead of part of the ship, even on the floor. This flexibility is essential for the implementation of e-drives on boats, a solution demanded by owners and shipyards looking to optimize efficiency without compromising space.

At 246 Wh per litre, “Kaptein” sets a new standard for energy density, offering impressive capacity with a minimal footprint. “ This means that even in tight spaces, our customers can achieve the desired autonomy without sacrificing performance ,” explained Kent Thoresen, CTO of Tesvolt Ocean. In addition, the system offers the fastest charging on the market, optimising vessel operating times.

Weight was another critical factor. With a design that weighs just 4.83 kg per kWh, it is the lightest system available, incorporating an advantage in terms of operational efficiency. In addition, its fire suppression system ensures complete safety on board.

Kilian Hoffmann, CCO of Tesvolt Ocean , said: “Kaptein” was developed after three years of research and intensive dialogue with customers in multiple focus groups. This approach has resulted in a solution that is perfectly tailored to the needs of the industry, facilitating the transition to cleaner and more sustainable shipping.
