Hƶegh Evi has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with SEMOP Port-La Nouvelle, marking a major step forward in energy infrastructure for Europe. This agreement focuses on developing a key floating terminal in the French port of Port-La Nouvelle, designed to facilitate the import of hydrogen from the Middle East, North Africa and the Americas.

Floating terminal in Port-La Nouvelle to boost clean energy

The Port of Port-La Nouvelle is set to transform into a vital energy hub, underpinning the transition towards cleaner and more sustainable energy sources on the European continent. ā€œ With its expertise in floating infrastructure, Hƶegh Evi is poised to enable the import of significant volumes of clean molecules within this decade ,ā€ said Erik Nyheim, CEO of Hƶegh Evi. The port boasts strategic infrastructure that positions it as a crucial entry point into the Mediterranean.

In addition, collaboration with European initiatives such as HySoW Hydrogen and operator TerĆ©ga will ensure the terminal’s connectivity with hydrogen transport networks in Europe , raising the industrial and energy profile of the Occitanie region and encouraging job creation. The terminal is expected to handle up to 210,000 tonnes of hydrogen per year by 2030 , a step forward in line with France’s gas infrastructure.

Port-La Nouvelle has invested substantially in its development, with the aim of leading the green transition and hosting traffic related to renewable energies . Hans Kerstens, Director of SEMOP Port-La Nouvelle, expressed his enthusiasm: ā€œ We are ready to welcome new types of activities, especially those linked to hydrogen, working closely with Hƶegh Evi to become a reference centre in the Mediterranean .ā€
