Elon Musk wants to implant robotic limbs driven by brain chips into people with amputations.

Elon Musk recently expressed his desire to help people who have experienced limb amputations. According to Interesting Engineering, Musk wants to bring the “Six Million Dollar Man” concept to life.

Useful robotic limbs for people

The former term refers to the iconic “Six Million Dollar Man” of the 1970s, a series in which an American test pilot experiences a devastating accident in which he loses his limbs and is later implanted with robotic devices that improve their skills.

Its goal is to give people who have suffered limb amputations the ability to have their limbs replaced with robotic devices controlled by a brain chip . Although it sounds like science fiction, Musk is determined to make it happen.

In a statement, Musk expressed his belief that it would be amazing to be able to help millions of people around the world by giving them an arm or a leg that is just as good or even better in the long run than biological ones. These claims confirm that in the near future there could be people with this technology incorporated into their limbs.

Musk commented that “by combining a Neuralink implant with a robotic arm or leg to someone who has had an arm, a leg, or both amputated, we think we can basically give a cyborg body that is incredibly capable.”

Although so far he has not given specific details regarding the previous statement, it has generated a great deal of intrigue among the industry and investors. The only thing that has been anticipated is that the brain chip used will come from Neuralink , one of his other companies.

Today, prostheses with robotic features are not uncommon. In fact, other companies and engineers are hard at work finding and improving these devices, such as a bionic arm designed to work with artificial intelligence. Clone Robotics has also developed such arms that can even lift weights.

These statements and advances show that the robotics industry is looking to provide a practical and viable solution for people who have experienced amputations. What is certain is that these technological advances will contribute in the future to these people being able to lead a normal life without any discomfort.
