The StratCat 27 hybrid support vessel is designed to transport technicians and cargo essential for the construction, operation and maintenance of offshore wind farms. This transport unit is owned by Prosperous Wind Shipping and operated by it, the vessel will be able to meet the specific needs of the offshore wind industry in Taiwan.
Support vessel is a key piece for Yunlin
It will begin operating phases at the Yunlin offshore wind farm in April 2024, marks a major breakthrough in Taiwan’s renewable energy landscape, and the Yunlin project has an estimated contract value of around $3 million.
The vessel will operate 24 hours a day, facilitating the transit of personnel, equipment and cargo between the selected port, the installation vessel and throughout the wind farm, ensuring seamless support for the development of the project’s infrastructure.
A Taiwanese energy block
The Yunlin offshore wind farm is being developed by YWPC, a joint venture project company involving Skyborn Renewables, TotalEnergies, Electricity Generating Public Company and Sojitz Corporation.
After completion of the project phases, it is estimated that this offshore wind farm will become one of the largest in Taiwan. With an energy production capacity to meet the needs of more than 600,000 Taiwanese households, thus contributing to a more sustainable future for the country.
