Catalan industrial designer Óscar Viñals revealed the conceptual design of a supersonic aircraft powered by a hydrogen detonation engine called ‘Sky OV’. According to Viñals, this ship has the capacity to transport up to 300 people at unprecedented flight speeds, while achieving environmental sustainability by completely eliminating polluting emissions .

This project goes beyond its predecessor, the ‘Flash Falcon’, an aircraft powered by nuclear fusion with a top speed of 3,700 km/h. With Sky OV, Viñals suggests the possibility of the “next generation of commercial aircraft.”

Its creator explains that the aerodynamic efficiency of the Sky OV exceeds that of current aircraft thanks to the design of its mixed-wing fuselage. However, the real innovation lies in its internal components and its hydrogen-powered detonation engine . Additionally, the Sky OV would use an innovative bladeless propulsion system.

According to Viñals, the aircraft would be characterized by being extremely silent, would not produce harmful emissions to the atmosphere during its flights and could be built using the latest generation materials, which would allow the aircraft to be 30% lighter and much less mechanically complex.

Among other features, these planes could accommodate around 200 passengers, extending up to 300 in standard configurations with no frills inside. The rides would offer a high level of comfort, although the exact specifications of its interior design have not yet been detailed.

Externally, the plane would feature folding wings to reduce its footprint at airports. In addition, it would incorporate ailerons on the upper part, which could be managed by an artificial intelligence system to improve lift and optimize air flow during various maneuvers.

So far, the aircraft only represents a conceptual project. However, it remains to be seen whether this concept will materialize in the future and become part of our daily lives.
