Stellantis’ Zaragoza plant , in line with its Dare Forward 2030 plan commitment to achieve carbon neutrality by 2038, has completed the installation of its first wind turbine within a hybrid self-consumption project.

A pioneering project Stellantis Zaragoza

This 6.9 MW wind turbine, manufactured by Nordex Group , features a rotor with a diameter of 163 metres and a hub height of 98 metres. It is also the first of four to be installed at the Figueruelas factory and it is estimated that, once it is operational at the end of the year, this wind turbine will be able to cover up to 80% of the plant’s energy needs, with an estimated annual net production of 20,916 MWh.

The hybrid project combines solar and wind energy to achieve a generation capacity of 58.4 MW. Of this total, 30.8 MW will come from solar energy and 27.6 MW from wind energy, contributing to the reduction of the plant’s carbon footprint.

The company responsible for the installation of this wind turbine is Prosolia Energy, which, through a power purchase agreement ( PPA ), will provide the electricity needed to cover most of Stellantis’ energy demands, guaranteeing a stable and efficient supply 24 hours a day.

Prosolia Energy ‘s Distributed Generation Director, Juan Reinón, highlighted the company’s commitment to the energy transition, underlining the importance of customized and competitive solutions to support the industry in its decarbonization processes.

The Zaragoza plant has been recognized on multiple occasions for its environmental management, complying with ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 regulations. This hybrid project reinforces Stellantis’ commitment to sustainability and the reduction of carbon emissions, positioning the plant as a benchmark in energy innovation within the automotive industry.

Plant Director Susana Remacha expressed her satisfaction with the implementation of advanced renewable technologies, highlighting that this wind-solar project not only strengthens Stellantis’ leadership in the automotive sector, but also significantly contributes to the company’s commitment to the energy transition.
