YPF started the construction of the first section of the oil pipeline in the Vaca Muerta Sur project, a strategic work for the oil sector and for the country, which will increase the production and export of crude oil.

The Vaca Muerta Sur project

The first 130 kilometers will extend between the towns of Añelo, in Neuquén, and Allen, in Río Negro, where it will connect with the Oldelval system. This will allow the start-up to transport oil, while the completion of the second section and the export terminal in the Punta Colorada area, near Sierra Grande, is being supervised.

The project started in Loma Campana, a block operated by YPF in the heart of Vaca Muerta. In this first tranche, the investment will be around US$190 million and 500 jobs will be created. More than 10,000 sections of 20-inch and 30-inch pipe will be used to increase the pipeline.

At its maximum operating capacity, this pipeline pipeline will allow the transportation of 390 thousand barrels per day, increasing by 70% the possibility of evacuating oil from the Neuquina Basin and doubling the total capacity in the core of Vaca Muerta.

The second stage and export terminal

At this stage of development and with a high degree of progress, the participation of more than 2,000 million dollars will allow YPF to face the logistical and planning challenges that may be required, under the joint coordination of other companies.

The Vaca Muerta Sur project will have the capacity to export more than 135 million barrels of oil per year, making Argentina an important oil exporter in the region.

In addition to the pipeline, the project includes the construction of the largest tank farm in Argentina and two floating monobuoys to be located 6 kilometers offshore.

One project per section per section

YPF has three major projects that, to a greater or lesser extent, have an impact on this productive sector. One of the projects is Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and the complete exploration of Vaca Muerta Sur.

Each of the projects in the CAN(Cuenca Argentino Norte) 100 block started after the Valaris DS-17 exploratory vessel arrived. Expectations are high and some specialists indicate that the Argerich project could reach a capacity of up to 200 thousand barrels per day, increasing production in the country by 30%.

The learning curve has allowed the company to venture into different projects that will mark the country’s hydrocarbon future. The Argerich project is a sample of all that Argentina has to offer in the oil field.
