On 22 October, Equinor received an alert due to the presence of smoke in the electrical distribution room of the Sleipner B platform , an unmanned installation located in the Sleipner Vest area in the North Sea.
The Sleipner B platform incident
The incident occurred at 04:40 hours, which immediately activated the company’s emergency response protocol. Precautionary measures were also applied, with the company suspending all platform operations and depressurizing the facilities to avoid possible long-term risks.
The Skandi Mongstad vessel was mobilised to the area to assist with contingency work, and local authorities were notified to manage the situation. In this way, all security procedures were implemented gradually.
Sleipner B is located approximately 12.5 km from Sleipner A , another important platform in the gas production system. So far, no serious damage or injuries have been reported due to the incident, and investigations are expected to identify the exact cause of the smoke development.
Equinor , a major player in energy production , will continue to monitor the situation and report on all developments. The restoration of production will depend on the results of technical inspections and the remediation of affected equipment.
