Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has declared that smartphones’ days are numbered. During the Meta Connect 2024 conference, the entrepreneur claimed that mobile phones will become obsolete in less than a decade. Instead, smart glasses with augmented reality will take center stage in our daily lives.
A new technological era: AI smart glasses
The Facebook founder explained that the main value of cell phones has always been their portability and access to the Internet. However, they are now considered small devices that limit face-to-face interaction. Smart glasses, on the other hand, offer a digital experience integrated into the physical world.
These augmented reality glasses will allow users to perform tasks such as work, study and communication without relying on a handheld screen. Zuckerberg emphasized that the devices will be deeply connected to artificial intelligence, facilitating much more advanced visual and auditory interactions.
In addition, the Meta Quest 3S model includes integrated cameras to capture high-quality photos and videos, as well as live broadcasts. The flagship project, Orion , aims to be an even more powerful development within this segment. With this vision, the company plans to lead the digital transformation, replacing smartphones and merging the real world with the virtual one through augmented reality.
