Last Wednesday it was broadcast live through Youtube Y LinkedIn the Second Inspenet Panel Discussion titled “Industry 4.0: Trends and new technologies applied in maritime and fluvial terminals”; a meeting in which expert professionals issued interesting opinions and points of view regarding existing innovations in the area.
Second Panel Discussion: Expert Opinions
The first to join the dynamic was José Ramón Iribarren , CEO of SIPORT21, who began by analyzing the Industry 4.0 concept and how it relates to smart ports, emphasizing the importance of understanding and applying intelligence to problem solving.
” The intelligent ones are not the ports, the intelligent ones are the people with whom we are going to work in all this environment “
He also delved into the objectives and characteristics of smart ports at an international level, highlighting five key aspects: connectivity, security, operational efficiency, resource efficiency and sustainability.
The expert also highlighted the importance of adopting a predictive and prescriptive approach to understand the phenomena that occur in the terminals in order to make informed decisions.
For his part, Gonzalo Mera Truffini, executive manager for the Americas of MIS MARINE and an expert in technology applied to maritime insurance, shared his perspective on the subject under discussion and first of all highlighted the importance of efficiency in terminals to maximize utilization and minimize interruptions.
In the same way, he mentioned four key pillars in industry 4.0 applied to the marine guarantee: collaboration, real-time monitoring, effective response and use of data, making known the tools and processes involved in the verification, planning, programming and recovery of data in terminal operations.
He also stressed the importance of combining technology with human intelligence to interpret data in accordance with the interests, philosophy, expectations and objectives of the company, without neglecting the need for people who understand the interests of the organization apply intelligence to systematically improve terminal capabilities.
” Within the operation of a terminal, there is not only the personnel that operates it; there are multiple work teams that are added and that are part of the results “
Another of the experts who participated in the Panel was Rafael Rengifo , Midstreem Director at Back in Genierim, who provided valuable input and discussed how maritime terminals support decarbonization efforts.
Likewise, he highlighted the importance of achieving efficiency and making the right decisions in response to ongoing technological evolution and the challenges faced by operators, maintainers, engineers and service companies.
Renjifo provided an overview of his experience in mechanical integrity and his role as a Midstreem Director at Back in Genierim, highlighting his support to oilfield, terminal and marine facilities, as well as his accomplishments in tank repair projects.
Similarly, he highlighted the importance of focusing on the landside of the terminals to support decarbonization initiatives and stressed the need for a strategic evaluation and reduction of logistics in decarbonization initiatives.
” The transition towards decarbonization requires a comprehensive approach that considers both the specific challenges and opportunities of each terminal .”
