RWE, seeks to create an artificial lake and is undertaking an environmentally significant project called the Rhine Water Pipeline (RWTL), which involves the transformation of disused coal mines into artificial lakes by supplying water from the Rhine River.
RWE and Tosyalı join forces in the construction of artificial lakes
For this purpose, RWE has selected Tosyalı, a Turkish company specialized in the production of environmentally friendly steel pipes, to provide the necessary pipes that They will facilitate the transportation of water. Lars Kuluk, CTO of RWE Power, highlights the importance of selecting a supplier committed to sustainability and innovative technology, such as Tosyalı, whose vertically integrated production guarantees the quality and sustainability of the final product.
The project, managed by RWE, requires 130,000 tonnes and 105,600 meters of large diameter pipes supplied by Tosçelik Spiral Boru. This collaboration was formalized by the signing of a contract at Paffendorf Castle, a convention center near Cologne. Fuat Tosyalı, company director, highlights his company’s commitment to innovation and sustainability, expressing his enthusiasm for participating in a project of such environmental magnitude.
Mine transformation and environmental commitment
The plan involves installing a pressurized underground pipeline system over 45 kilometers to transport water from the Rhine to the mines being converted. This initiative will not only transform mines into natural spaces, but will also contribute to the stabilization of the regional water table and the supply of clean water to protected wetlands. RWE plans to start work at the end of this year and complete the project by the end of 2029.
On the other hand, Tosyalı has highlighted its commitment to sustainability in other areas, such as its investments in solar energy and hydrogen at facilities in both Turkey and Algeria. The company has become a leader in the production of green steel, avoiding approximately 171 million kg of carbon emissions thanks to its ecological practices. With projects such as the DRI production plant in Algeria, powered by MIDREX technology and operated with 100% hydrogen, Tosyalı demonstrates its commitment to a sustainable energy future.
Collaboration for a sustainable future
This project not only represents a significant environmental transformation in the industrial sector, but also highlights the importance of collaboration between companies specializing in green technologies and renewable energy to address global environmental challenges.
RWE’s initiative and the participation of companies like Tosyalı show the way towards a more sustainable future, where innovation and environmental responsibility are fundamental in the search for effective solutions to mitigate the impact of climate change.
