Boston Dynamics has presented the new version of its Atlas humanoid robot, now fully electric and equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning tools. This new model is designed to exceed human capabilities in terms of power, range of motion, object manipulation and adaptation to complex real-world situations.
The announcement of the withdrawal of the previous version of Atlas surprised many, but Boston Dynamics responds with a new electric model that promises greater efficiency and capacity to face the most demanding challenges of today’s industry. This new iteration is more powerful, agile and versatile, with an expanded range of motion and the ability to integrate Orbit software.
Boston Dynamics’ Atlas robot is suited for challenging tasks
The new Boston Dynamics robot retains the humanoid shape of its predecessor, with a head, trunk, two arms and two legs, but with a more agile and lighter body. Thanks to its electric design, it is “stronger, more dexterous and more agile” than previous versions, as it is not limited by a human range of motion.
The new Atlas’ AI and machine learning capabilities allow it to operate and adapt to complex real-world situations. This makes it ideal for performing “boring, dirty and dangerous tasks” in real-world applications such as manufacturing, construction and logistics.

Hyundai will use Atlas in the manufacturing of its vehicles
It is important to note that Boston Dynamics has announced that the first customer of the new Atlas will be Hyundai, which will use the robot in automobile manufacturing. The South Korean company will serve as a “perfect testing ground” for new applications of the robot.
Without a doubt, the new Atlas robot represents a significant advance in the development of humanoid robots. Its power, agility, adaptability, and AI tools make it a powerful tool for performing complex tasks in challenging environments. As robotic technology continues to develop, we are likely to see humanoid robots like Atlas playing an increasingly important role in our lives.
