The Solar Wind Atlas, prepared based on a study by the company AWS Truepower SL (Underwriters Laboratories, UL) for the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, within the framework of the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Program (PEERR II) and in coordination with the Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Energy of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, highlights the progress made by the country in the field of renewable energies.

As an example of this, he cites the completed wind power projects; Qollpana I and II (27 megawatts, MW) in Cochabamba, to which are added those that are in the execution stage in San Julián, Warnes and El Dorado (108 MW), all in the Department of Santa Cruz.

In addition to them, there is the Oruro Photovoltaic Solar Plant (100 MW), which is the largest in Bolivia, and the Cobija (5 MW) solar plants in Pando, Yunchará (5 MW) in Tarija, Uyuni in Potosí́ (60 MW) and others with less installed capacity.

“The implementation of friendly energies with Mother Earth has already meant considerable progress in changing the energy matrix, since currently 50% of the electricity distributed in the country comes from renewable or alternative sources,” the report highlights. .

The objective of the national government is to continue with this change in the generation of electrical energy with a view to the Bicentennial of the State, in 2025.

The Vice Minister of Electricity and Alternative Energies, Edgar Caero, reported that the Economic and Social Development Plan (PDES) 2021-2025 establishes that by 2025, 75% of the national demand in Bolivia must be covered with renewable energies.

The Miguillas (Bs 110.9 million) and Ivirizu (Bs 407.4 million) hydroelectric projects, which together will contribute 500 kilowatts, will make this goal possible.
