During the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) 2024 held in China, which ended on July 7, the National Joint Local Innovation Center for Humanoid Robots unveiled for the first time the Qinglong robot, an advanced full-size humanoid for general-purpose, open source-based applications.
This event served for the premiere of the first humanoid robot humanoid robot humanoid robot in China and also for the introduction of its associated open source technology.
Qinglong robot open source strategy
Qinglong, at 185 cm tall and 80 kg, stands out for his highly bionic torso and his ability to handle complex movements, facilitated by his 43 active degrees of freedom. Likewise, its ability to navigate difficult terrain and its resistance to impacts make it an ideal platform for the development of advanced artificial intelligence.

Qinglong’s open source strategy seeks to enhance global progress and cooperation in the fields of robotics and artificial intelligence artificial intelligence. This approach could catalyze transformative developments in multiple industrial sectors. Live demonstrations during the Humanoid Robot Summit and the Embodied Intelligence Development Forum highlighted Qinglong’s functionality and innovative design.
Importantly, Humanoid Robots (Shanghai) Limited, the entity behind Qinglong, was recently designated as the National Joint Local Humanoid Robot Innovation Center. With a capital of RMB 1 billion, this company is at the forefront of technological development.
About WAIC 2024
The World Artificial Intelligence Conference 2024 is a leading event in the field of artificial intelligence that was held in Shanghai from July 4 to 7. The event aimed to present the city as a global epicenter of AI innovation and showcase innovative solutions to guide the AI landscape towards responsible and sustainable growth.
Throughout the event, more than 1,500 technological innovations from more than 500 companies were exhibited. Also on display were 50 new products, 100 large-scale models and 18 humanoid robots, Qinglong being one of them.
“Our plan is to launch a new humanoid robot model every year, each named after a Chinese zodiac animal, to nurture an innovative humanoid robotics community,” said Jiang Lei, chief scientist of the project, during the humanoid’s unveiling.
Xu Bin, CEO of the center, explained,“By releasing our humanoid technologies into the public domain, we expect that in the next decade, their application in home services and human care will intensify.”
