Qatar Energy, BP, ExxonMobil and Equinor win blocks to explore offshore Canada

Canada announced to the oil companies that they were awarded the blocks to explore offshore in the Eastern Newfoundland region. This award of the exploration licenses is subject to other approvals from the federal and provincial governments.

The Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board (C-NLOPB) detailed that five successful bids had been received for the NL22-CFB01 call for tender. This call corresponds to a total of 238,075,321 dollars in work commitments and an area of 1,222,907 hectares.

QatarEnergy announced the award of Parcel 8 of the Orphan Basin, off the coast of the province of Newfoundland and Labrador in Canada. It was also indicated that ExxonMobil will be the operator with a 70% stake and QatarEnergy its partner with a 30% stake.

Other winning acreage bids in Canada include those made by BP for Parcel 12 and a partnership between BP and Equinor for Parcel 26, Parcel 27 and Parcel 28.
