The Extended National Consumer Price Index (IPCA), which measures official inflation in Brazil, reached 0.23% in May of this year. The rate is lower than that of April (0.61%) and May 2022 (0.47%).
With the result, disclosed in Rio de Janeiro by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) , the IPCA accumulates 2.95% this year. In 12 months, the accumulated is 3.94%, below the 4.18% accumulated until April.
The main impact on inflation in May came from the health and personal care group, which registered a rise of 0.93%, driven by items such as health insurance (1.20%), personal hygiene items (1.13 %) and pharmaceuticals (0.89%).

The elements that registered deflation (fall in prices) were transportation (-0.57%) and household items (-0.23%).
The variation in transport was influenced by the decrease in air fares (-17.73%) and fuels (-1.82%), such as diesel (-5.96%), gasoline (-1.93 %) and vehicle gas (-1.01%).
Food continued registering inflation (0.16%), but at a level lower than that of April (0.71%), due to the prices of fruit (-3.48%), soybean oil (-7, 11%) and meat (-0.74%).
