Poland has launched an ambitious $5.4 billion loan program to finance the construction of offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea. This plan, led by Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego (BGK), is part of the country’s efforts to strengthen its energy matrix with renewable energies and improve energy security.
Wind energy loans available through 2026
The program, backed by European Union recovery funds, offers loans on market terms for projects with at least 300 MW of installed capacity. This means that the loans, which will be available until August 2026, will not be considered public aid and therefore will not require additional approval from the European Commission.
Jacek Bartmiński, Poland’s deputy minister of state property, stressed the importance of the offshore wind energy in the country’s energy future, stating that this boost will not only promote economic growth, but also create around 100,000 new jobs. In addition, companies such as PGE and Orsted, along with Orlen and Northland Power, already have plans in place to develop 5.9 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030.
With this program, Poland positions itself as a leader in renewable energy in Europe and prepares for a more sustainable and secure future for its citizens.
