Plug Power ’s new hydrogen production facility in St. Gabriel, Louisiana, is on track to begin operations in the first quarter of this year, meeting the established schedule. This hydrogen plant, developed in conjunction with Olin Corporation under the Hidrogenii company, will contribute 15 tons per day ( TPD ) of liquid hydrogen to the supply network in North America.

The facility has accumulated more than 412,000 incident-free working hours, reflecting strict compliance with process safety management ( PSM ) standards. All high-risk tasks, such as crane handling, high-voltage electrical installations and high-pressure pneumatic testing, have been completed without accidents.

Our team has executed hundreds of high-risk operations without a single incident.

The hydrogen produced at the new facility will be a key component in the transition to cleaner energy sources. Plug Power has developed a comprehensive hydrogen ecosystem, spanning from production and storage to distribution and application in industrial and e-mobility sectors.

The drying process to ensure high purity hydrogen

This procedure is important for removing moisture and impurities , preventing problems such as corrosion and performance decline in fuel cell applications. In addition, the company applies advanced pressure regulation and humidity control techniques, with drying periods varying from several days to weeks, depending on the section of the system.

With the addition of this plant, Plug Power will increase its production capacity to 39 TPD of liquid hydrogen, consolidating its presence in the hydrogen market. This increase in production responds to the growing demand of its main clients, such as Amazon and Walmart , which have opted for cleaner and more sustainable energy solutions.

The Louisiana plant will strengthen the company’s hydrogen infrastructure and contribute to its vertical integration strategy, reducing dependence on third parties for hydrogen supply. Furthermore, based on the operational experience of its facility in Woodbine, Georgia, this new plant will operate continuously 24 hours a day, optimizing supply efficiency and energy autonomy.
