Petrobras and its partners have made an oil discovery in the northwest of the Sépia oil field, in the Brazilian Sea, almost 250 km off the coast of Rio de Janeiro.

The find was made at a depth of 2,200 meters in well 4-BRSA-1386D-RJS, which was opened at the end of July 2022. According to the company, the range of the discovery was verified by electrical logs and fluid samples, which will be further characterized by laboratory analysis.

Petrobras and its partners are expected to continue operations to characterize the conditions of the reservoirs found and confirm the extent of the hydrocarbon discovery.

The oil discovery is within the Sépia Sharing Area, which encompasses the Sépia Transfer of Rights (ToR) agreement, in which Petrobras holds 100%, and the Sépia ToR Surplus Production Sharing Agreement.

Petrobras (30%), TotalEnergies (28%), Petronas (21%) and QatarEnergy (21%) were awarded the Cuttlefish ToR Production Sharing Contract in December 2021 with Pre-Sal Petróleo (PPSA) as manager .

“This is exciting news, just months after completing our entry into the world-class Sépia field in Brazil, where we are already benefiting from production performance with the first FPSO,” said David Mendelson, Senior Vice President of exploration and production of TotalEnergies in the Americas.
