Sembcorp Marine, of Singapore, through its Brazilian subsidiary Estaleiro Jurong Aracruz (EJA), has completed the construction of the P-71, its second Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel project for Tupi BV

Sembcorp said the new-build FPSO vessel P-71 has sailed from the EJA shipyard and will be deployed to the Itapu ultra-deepwater field in the pre-salt layer of the Santos Basin in Brazil.

The P-71 is expected to produce up to 150,000 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) once it becomes operational. At 316 m long, the P-71 has a storage capacity of 1.6 million barrels and can accommodate 166 people.

The FPSO hull arrived in Brazil from the Chinese CIMC Raffles shipyard in March 2020. Originally designed for the Tupi field, the FPSO was modified and integrated into EJA for deployment in the Itapú field following Petrobras’ decision to focus on deep and ultra-deep waters.

Petrobras confirmed in a statement the departure of the FPSO from the shipyard, adding that it will start operations in December 2022. The vessel should reach its peak production at the end of 2023. The unit belongs to Petrobras and will be the last in the series of replicants, also made up of P-66, P-67, P-68, P-69 and P-70.
