Petrobras has confirmed the success of its operation in the Uchuva-2 well, located in deep water off the coast of Colombia. This announcement follows the company’s communication, which reported the discovery of gas in the Uchuva-1 well.
The Uchuva-2 well, which spudded on June 19, 2024, has confirmed the magnitude of the original discovery, providing crucial data for the development of a new exploration and production frontier in the region.
Located 31 kilometers off the Colombian coast and at a water depth of 804 meters, this well is part of a consortium operated by Petrobras (44.44% interest) in association with Ecopetrol (55.56% interest).
Gas discovery in Uchuva-2 well confirmed
During the fourth phase of drilling the well, the presence of a gas producing interval was verified through electrical profiles, which will be subjected to laboratory analysis for detailed characterization. These operations are aligned with the company’s long term strategy of of the company, which seeks to expand its oil and gas reserves by exploring new frontiers and strategic partnerships, thus guaranteeing energy supply in a context of global energy transition.
Completion of the well drilling and full characterization of the reservoirs encountered are expected by the end of 2024, when a formation test will be conducted that will provide additional information on the potential of these resources.
This discovery reinforces Colombia’s position as a key player in the natural gas industry in Latin America, and underscores the company’s technical capability and commitment to developing exploration projects in complex and challenging environments.
