The general director of the National Center for Natural Gas Control (Cenagas) said in an interview with Bloomberg that Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) already stores liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in caverns located in the state of Veracruz.

According to Abraham David Alipi, the state production company, the hydrocarbon is stored in caverns in the municipality of Ixahuatlán in the state of Veracruz.

Guaranteeing energy stability: Pemex implements a unique storage solution in Veracruz

In November 2014, CYDSA formalized a contract with Pemex, with the objective of developing a Project for the underground storage of LPG, in a saline cavern built specifically for this use. A pioneer in Mexico, the project is located in the State of Veracruz, near the Pajaritos maritime terminal.

The development consists of a saline cavern with an operational storage capacity of 1.8 million barrels of LPG, as well as the construction of the infrastructure required on the surface for the injection, extraction and transfer of up to 120 thousand barrels per day.

In April 2015, permission was received from the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE) for the execution of this Project.
