OpenAI is in negotiations with Helion, a startup dedicated to the generation of electricity through nuclear fusion plants, to gain access to its future power generators that are still under development. These talks were revealed by the Wall Street Journal, which indicates that any agreement between the two companies could provide OpenAI with a “huge amount” of power to operate its machine learning data centers.
Notably, Sam Altman, OpenAI’s CEO, also serves as chairman of Helion’s board of directors and owns a $375 million stake in the company. Despite this connection, Altman has reportedly removed himself from the negotiations to avoid conflicts of interest.
Potential impact for Helion
