In January of this year, Mexico exported 758,000 barrels of oil per day to the United States, according to the monthly report of the Energy Information Administration, EIA for its acronym in English.
The volume represents an increase of 17.51% in relation to the previous month when 645,000 barrels of oil were exported daily (includes both crude oil and derivative products).
Exports from Mexico to the US in January also grew compared to the same month last year, but only by 1.47%. The average export volume in 2021 was 747,000 barrels per day.
Canada was the largest exporter of oil to the United States in January with 4.6 million barrels per day. Mexico was the second largest supplier with 758,000 barrels per day. Saudi Arabia was third with 553,000 barrels per day.
In relation to the export of crude oil, the EIA explains that 86% of the imports of the United States in January came from five countries. The five largest sources were Canada (3.9 million b/d), Mexico (622,000 b/d), Saudi Arabia (485,000 b/d), Iraq (254,000 b/d) and Colombia (194,000 b/d).
Other countries that exported crude oil to the United States in January are Guyana (98,000 b/d), Brazil (98,000 b/d), Trinidad and Tobago (79,000 b/d) and Ecuador (79,000 b/d). The total volume of crude oil imports from the United States in January was 6.4 million barrels per day, a decrease of 39,000 barrels per day compared to December.
