Oil and Gas Development Company Limited(OGDCL) has reported a new gas discovery at its Chak 202-1 well, located in the Rahim Yar Khan district of Punjab province, Pakistan. This discovery was made under the operation of the Mari East Exploration License, in which OGDCL has a full working interest.

The discovery of the Chak 202-1 well

The well was drilled on June 29, 2024 as part of an internal exploration strategy carried out by OGDCL. This operation reached a depth of 1956.50 meters, and the results of wireline log interpretation showed favorable results.

Drilling Test I, conducted in the Sui Main Limestone(SML), demonstrated that the well has a capacity to produce 6.15 million standard cubic feet per day(MMSCFD) of gas, using a 32/64″ choke and maintaining a wellhead flowing pressure(WHFP) of 1340 psi.

This discovery represents the second consecutive discovery in the Mari East block, reinforcing OGDCL s commitment to exploiting the hydrocarbon potential in this area. The company sees this discovery as an opportunity to open up new exploration routes and contribute to narrowing the gap between energy supply and demand in Pakistan by tapping into domestic resources. Furthermore, this achievement increases both OGDCL’s and the country’s hydrocarbon reserves.
