New nuclear-powered container ship

CSSC has unveiled plans for the first container ship powered by a molten salt nuclear reactor. According to The Maritime Executive, the design of this vessel has obtained a Certificate of Approval in Principle (AiP) from DNV.

Although the company has not revealed many details about the project, it has highlighted various research and tests carried out with thorium-based reactors.

This type of ship has high safety since the reactor operates at high temperatures and low pressure, which means that, in principle, it can avoid core meltdown ,” mentioned CSSC.
